Sedalia Park School Counseling

Ms. Pustilnik – Counselor for Grades Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd

Gratitude Scavenger Hunt

Hi Sedalia Park Panthers!

During my last classroom counseling lesson in kindergarten, first and second grades at school, we discussed EMPATHY or understanding and caring about how other people feel.  To build on that lesson, I’d like to encourage your kids to focus on GRATITUDE and think about what and who they are thankful for in their lives.  Let them try this out: Gratitude_Scavenger_Hunt (from mybrainblox.com)

There has been a lot of research about the benefits of gratitude on how kids think and feel such as:

During this unusual time as we adjust to life and learning apart from the physical school buildings, I’m hoping this activity will help our students focus on more positives in their lives.  Here’s another screen-free activity that your kids can do with or without your help.  Let them try to complete what they can without your help and show off their answers to you.  You can help them fill in the blanks and remind them about all the good stuff they have to be thankful for.  Enjoy!

As always, please reach out if I can help support you, your student and/or family in any way.

Mindfulness Activity

Hi Sedalia Park Panthers!

Here’s another screen-free idea to help get outside with your kiddos and encourage mindfulness.  What is mindfulness you ask?  It is when we ask kids to pay full attention to something, while relaxing their bodies and clearing their minds of everything else. (for more information on mindfulness: https://kidshealth.org/en/kids/mindfulness.html).  Mindfulness activities can help kids build self-awareness, reduce anxiety and improve emotional regulation.

Maybe this week when you need a break from technology and can get outside, join your student on this Nature Mindful Scavenger Hunt (from lookforlittlehelpers.com):

Social-Emotional Learning from Home

Hi Sedalia Park Panthers!

Looking for an idea to practice social-emotional learning (SEL) at home?  Here is a choice board to work on with your kids.  A choice board is a graphic organizer that allows students to choose how they will learn a concept.  Inside each square is an activity.  Students can choose one or several activities to complete.  Try to complete a whole row or maybe even the whole board throughout week #2 of digital learning.  Click on the link to download a PDF version.  Happy digital learning! 🙂
