Ms. Pustilnik – Counselor for Grades Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd

Happy New Year!!!

Howdy Sedalia Park Panthers and families!

We miss seeing you around our school, but the teachers, staff, and admin are already busy preparing for a new school year.  Happy New Year!!  Because this school year is starting off in a different way, I wanted to share a special resource with you that comes from the Counseling Department in Cobb County Schools.  Check this out:  Virtual Calming Center

Click the link above to find many resources to help you feel calmer and more grounded and manage stress.  My personal favorite are the animal web cameras like this one from our local Georgia Aquarium: Beluga Whales Web Cam

Wishing you all a safe, productive, and stress-free start to the new school year!

Feelings Scavenger Hunt

Hi Sedalia Park Panthers!

You and your kids may be experiencing LOTS of different FEELINGS during this unusual time.  Here’s another screen-free activity to help your child focus on FEELINGS and build their Emotional IQ or EQ.

Feelings Scavenger Hunt

(From: Centervention.com)

Feelings matter!  When kids spend time learning about feelings, then they develop better skills to manage the big ones, exhibit better self-control, and feel more comfortable expressing themselves.  This activity may be a good starting point to get your kids talking about all the changes in their daily lives and how they FEEL about it.  What are they missing the most?  What’s something that makes them happy these days?  Talking about feelings often brings people closer together, too.  There are many benefits to feelings education  – check here for more information: Kids Health – Talking About Feelings and COVID-19 Calming Anxiety for Parents

Take care!  Please reach out if I can help support your family and/or student in any way.  flynn.pustilnik@cobbk12.org

Welcome Back Park Panthers!

Hi Sedalia Park Panthers!

I hope you enjoyed a relaxing Spring Break!  I miss you all!! Despite ALL of the changes that have happened to us and our school over the past few weeks, I’m hoping that we can work together and help our students develop and maintain positive attitudes through POSITIVE SELF-TALK.  See below for the benefits of positive self-talk, including overcoming tough times more easily, coping with stress better, and building self-confidence.  Negative emotions like sadness, fear, and disappointment are totally normal, expected and valid during this time.  However, if we continue to focus only on the negative feelings, it leads to more stress and is not healthy for us.

Hey Parents!  Here are some positive self-talk statements.  Read these with your child and then ask them to add to the list to practice POSITIVE SELF-TALK.  Try reviewing this short list daily, or at least weekly, to keep the positive self-talk going!

  • What does your child like about him/herself?  Maybe they need your help identifying strengths.
  • What can they say when they make a mistake?  (This is hard, but I’ll keep trying.  Mistakes mean we are learning!)
  • What can we say to ourselves to get through this tough time?  (Challenges help me grow! I am strong! I know people who care about me.)

Coping with Today

Hi Sedalia Park Panthers!

What a day!  The quote below struck me today.

A Quote by Viktor Frankl | PEPTalks.us

It’s hard to have a positive attitude about everything. What a big disappointment for our students, staff, families and even our communities to be at home for the rest of the school year!  In situations like these where we have no control, we have to learn to cope and can help our kids learn this important life skill too.   Click here –> Coping Calendar – you may want to try it with your family.  Simple steps you can take everyday this month to take care of yourself.  I hope you’ll try at least one thing from the calendar and see how it makes you feel.  Please reach out if I can help support you, your student and/or family in any way.

Take care, Flynn (flynn.pustilnik@cobbk12.org or 470-344-3958)
